  Mind-Body Therapy Level I
This workshop is for therapists and health care practitioners treating chronic pain patients, whose stress and behavioral issues are impeding treatment process.  By utilizing a simple four-step process called the Network Change Model, therapists will be able to help patients eliminate harmful habits, and alleviate stress related to the patient’s pain problems.

The initial course is a practical workshop that focuses less on theory, and more on the specific techniques that are easy to learn and can be used immediately.  We have found that the best way to become proficient with the techniques is to have the participants practice the system on themselves.  As a result, in this first workshop, participants will have the added benefit of learning to decrease their own stress, and to remove the emotional and behavioral roadblocks to meeting their own life goals.  They will learn to weaken their negative behaviors, create positive habits, and experience an increase in emotional control, balance and productivity.

The follow-up workshops expand the techniques of the first course, and includes a stronger foundation in the theory behind the techniques, which allow the participants to treat patients more proficiently.  These courses will also teach therapists important interviewing and dialoguing skills to assist working with emotional and behavioral issues. These courses will also assist the individual in knowing which patients are likely to benefit from the interventions, and when to refer to outside sources for mental health treatment.

The Network Change Model is based on the principles of cognitive psychology and neurobiology whereby thoughts and emotions are understood to affect changes in the brain’s neuro-network.  This in turn affects change throughout the body including the muscular system, endocrine system, immune system and peripheral nervous system.  Workshop participants will learn techniques to shift old neuro-networks, and then by reinforcing these shifts over time, create a new dominant network that leads to permanent tangible changes in an individual’s behaviors and emotions.  This mind/body system has also been used successfully with issues related to weight reduction, exercise, procrastination, self-esteem, smoking, drinking, anger management, anxiety, as well as pain management
